Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law
As the director of education for the World House Project at Stanford’s Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law, Mira Foster oversees the development of educational resources designed to reach broad audiences interested in learning about the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr., the civil rights movement, and other global struggles for freedom and justice. She promotes the creation of innovative learning material, building upon the work of The Martin Luther King Jr. Research and Education Institute, the King Papers Project, and the Liberation Curriculum.
Dr. Foster received her PhD in Public History from UC-Santa Barbara, focusing her research and studies on the history of “ordinary people” emphasizing their agency as historical actors. Since Dr. Foster joined The Martin Luther King, Jr. Research and Education Institute at Stanford, she has authored numerous lesson plans, helped organize the 2019 International Gandhi-King Conference, and produced the World House Podcast. Currently at the World House Project, she continues developing educational resources, including the annual Documentary Film Festival. She has produced multi-media courses for the Stanford Continuing Studies Program in collaboration with Dr. Clayborne Carson.
In 2022, Dr. Foster produced the media content for the Travel/Study Following King trip. On our upcoming trip, Dr. Foster will discuss some of the major events that mark the history of the Civil Rights movement, highlighting the leaders as well as the unsung heroes who played key roles in the struggles for equality and justice.
