New Grad Student Orientation Events

New to campus? The Alumni Association partners with the Graduate Life Office during New Grad Student Orientation to host the New Grad Student Kick-off Lunch. It also distributes new grad student resources during the GOALIE Fair. Be sure to stop by our booth at the GOALIE Fair for some freebies!

If you missed the GOALIE Fair just email gradstudents@alumni.stanford.edu, and we will set you up with new grad student freebies (did someone say FREE coffee?) that you can pick up at the Arrillaga Alumni Center. Welcome!

Nerd Nation

The Stanford Alumni Association loves students, and one of the ways we show our love is showering you with Nerd Nation freebies at giveaways Fall Quarter! Giveaway info is always posted on the Stanford Student Alumni Facebook page.

Grad Student and Alum Dinner

Enjoy a dinner with five to ten other grad students who share your interests during a casual, home-cooked meal whipped up by local grad alumni hosts. Each family-style gathering is located near Stanford campus and is free for grad students; transportation is arranged as needed.

Appreciation Dinner

The Alumni Association hosts a special appreciation dinner for all Community Associates during winter quarter to say thank you for helping build the grad student community. Mingle with other Community Associates and learn about resources the Stanford Alumni Association provides grad students and young alums.

Community Impact Award for graduate students

The Stanford Alumni Association recognizes graduate students who have enhanced the Stanford community through their exemplary leadership of a student organization, creation of an event or program, or other unique campus contribution. These outstanding students have fostered a sense of belonging and inspired enthusiasm among fellow grad students. Nominations are accepted during winter quarter and awards are granted in the spring.

Criteria for selection

  • Current grad students are eligible for this award
  • Nominations will be accepted from faculty and staff
  • Grad students may receive this award only once

Funding sponsored by Stanford Associates.


Beyond the Farm

Volunteer alongside Stanford alumni, families and friends on April 27, 2019 at the Beyond the Farm Alumni Day of Service. With 224,000+ alumni around the globe, one day can make a world of difference.

Grad Commencement Celebration

Celebrate your graduation with an event just for graduate students. This June, join your classmates outside Old Union for an evening under the stars as you sample wine, beer, champagne and food pairings. EANABs will also be available.

This free event is open to graduate students who are eligible to participate in the June 2019 commencement. You are welcome to bring a guest; check your email in late May for registration information. If you do not receive an email, please contact Pauline Steinhoffer at paulines@stanford.edu. Space is limited.

Grad Student Community Grants

Do you have a great idea for an event or program to help build community with grad students or connect with grad alums? SAA would love to support your efforts with a one-time grant. Email gradstudents@

for more information. Grants can range from $100 to $500. Preference is given to programs or events that build community and/or connect grad students and grad alums.
