Got a plot or a pot? Got to plant!

Join us for Provisions for a Pandemic, a DIY presentation on How to Grow (Some of) Your Own Food. Why? For sustenance and satisfaction, for physical and mental well-being, to remember the vegetables and fruits you first met on your travels (remember travel?).

We'll take a look at kitchen gardens through recent history and review appropriate plants, soil requirements and climate conditions for success in our fruit and vegetable growing seasons in Southern California. We'll arm ourselves with information for a clean fight, even though it'll get dirty out there in the trenches, furrows, and mounds of your home garden.

Our presenter is Sandy Gillis of Gillis Landscape Design. Sandy is an EPA Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor & WaterSense Partner, a Certified Permaculture Designer, and a Horticulturist. Some of you may remember her as our fearless gardening leader for our day of service at Twelve Oaks Senior Living a few years ago. Sandy and a few other volunteers from our day there have continued to help care for the vegetable garden that we planted, and we look forward to going back as a group after the pandemic. Sandy is also the co-author of At Home Pasadena, a book showcasing the homes and gardens of Pasadena, and Hometown Pasadena, a book about the city that is now in its third edition.
