Join the Stanford Coastside Club and the Pillar Point Harbor Patrol for an informative tour of the harbor, its history, and an overview of current commercial fishing operations at this active harbor.

Pillar Point Harbor is our local harbor on the Pacific Ocean but it hasn't always been this way.  The area was originally inhabited by the Ohlone with evidence of their occupation dating to 10,000 years ago.  The Portola Expedition camped just south of the Harbor in 1769.   Several private piers were constructed in the first half of the 20th century.  The 1950s saw the construction of the first breakwaters and the evolution to our modern harbor with marina and boat launch that was completed in the early 1990s.

We will tour Pillar Point Harbor with a member of the Harbor Patrol and hopefully visit with one of the fishers who isn’t currently out at sea. The tour will be approximately 1 hour followed by a wine and small bites reception at the patio behind Old Princeton Landing, 460 Capistrano Rd, Half Moon Bay (Princeton).

There will be steps, wet areas, and uneven surfaces so be prepared with appropriate footwear.

Even in late May, the winds can whip up at the harbor so a windbreaker is advised.

Bring a camera - there is always something to photograph down at the harbor!

Your host for the tour is the San Mateo County Harbor District, Public Outreach Program.

Cost: $5

Limit: 25 people, so register early !
