Bob Athayde Family and Friends

A Jazz Quartet

Bob Athayde is well-known as an outstanding musician, conductor and teacher.  For our concert, he has assembled a special group of professional musicians including Bob Athayde on piano and vocals, Kyle Athayde on vibraphone and flugelhorn and two special guests.  Today’s jazz concert is a unique opportunity to hear our extremely talented musicians including one of Bob’s musically talented adult children.

Bob Athayde started playing trumpet at nine and by seventeen was playing professionally.  He added the piano at 19 and played professionally around the Bay Area. With Cal State Hayward B.A in music and a music teaching credential, he became the Music Director at Stanley Intermediate School in Lafayette, CA. Bob Athayde has been recognized for his outstanding teaching and musicianship receiving local and statewide awards.  On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights, Bob plays solo piano at La Finestra Restaurant in Moraga.

Kyle Athayde graduated from Juilliard and is a composer/arranger/performer, and the leader of Kyle Athayde Dance Party, a big band devoted to playing good, fun, original music in NYC and the West Coast. This February, the KADP was the featured Jazz Band at the Sitka Jazz Festival.  Kyle is also a Monterey Jazz Festival Artist, teaching and playing at the Next Generation Festival in Monterey along with teaching for SF JAZZ and the Lafayette Partners in Education (at Stanley Middle School. in Lafayette).
