Join alumni from Stanford New York Alumni and Stanford Pride, and help freshen up a shelter for homeless LGBTQ youth, with interior painting, cleaning, organizing and overall roll-up-your-sleeves type work that the center desperately needs.

The Ali Forney Center (AFC) is the nation's largest homeless LGBTQ youth shelter and services provider. AFC offers care and support services to more than 1,000 LGBTQ youth each year. AFC operates several shelters in New York City, with spaces for 120 young people in total, as well as a drop-in center.

The shelters need fresh interior paint this spring, as well as general sprucing up. Our Beyond The Farm project will focus on interior painting at one shelter. If we have a large enough group, we will do additional work beyond painting. We also will have a short orientation to AFC and meet with staff to hear about the mission and the work of AFC. We will take a break for lunch (most likely pizza) and then finish up our work in the afternoon. If folks are so inclined, we may go for a happy hour afterward -- details TBD.

Supplies will be provided. Dress for possibly getting messy with paint.

The project is geared to adults, but we welcome youth 16 and up as well.
