Three-peat ThwartedT he longest championship game in the history of NCAA women's water polo did not fall Stanford's way Sunday. The Cardinal lost 10-9 to USC on a sudden death goal in the fifth overtime period. The defeat ended the team's dream of a third consecutive national title, though another streak continues. Stanford has now been to the championship for four consecutive years. |

Jasper Ridge Preserve Turns 40J asper Ridge may lie out of sight from Stanford's main campus, but the biological preserve on the other side of Interstate 280 is never out of touch with the school's educational and research missions. Since 1973, the preserve has hosted research producing 1,100 scientific reports, 400 peer-reviewed papers and 100 dissertations. This year marks the 40th anniversary of its founding. |

Recovering Lost VoicesN o one knows exactly how Renaissance choral music sounded when it was first performed. But Stanford assistant professor of music Jesse Rodin wants to find out. Rodin recently led a performance at Memorial Church that paid close attention to the strictures faced by Renaissance singers. The result was a rendition close to what might have resounded in a French cathedral around 1520. |
