great 1906 Bay Area earthquake. Cardinal Conversations talked with
Andrea Davies, MA '96, MA '03, PhD '05, director of programs and
research at Stanford’s Clayman Institute for Gender Research
and author of Saving San Francisco: Relief and Recovery
after the 1906 Disaster. Excerpts:
What led to your interest in researching the 1906 earthquake?
My interest was sparked by my work as a San Francisco firefighter. When I came back to Stanford to become a social historian, I really wanted to understand how people lived in the past.
